The Class of 2024 features an impressive group of top achievers who have pushed the boundaries of academic excellence. With outstanding average marks that are nothing short of spectacular, these students have reached the pinnacle of success in the programme.

Leading the way is Msawenkosi Buthelezi, top achiever in the programme, with an outstanding 95.40% average and an impressive seven distinctions. Close behind are Mlungisi Mkhize from KwaZulu-Natal and Masindi Ramagoma from Limpopo, who also earned seven distinctions, with averages of 93.14% and 93.00%, respectively. These individuals exemplify the power of dedication and hard work. From Gauteng to Limpopo, Western Cape to KwaZulu-Natal, each one of the top 10 achievers has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence, earning multiple distinctions across various subjects.

Provincial pride: A strong performance across the nation
Across South Africa’s provinces, the Class of 2024 has achieved remarkable results. The Eastern Cape stands out as a powerhouse, with an overall average of 86.24%, with male students leading the way at 87.93%. KwaZulu-Natal takes the top spot with an impressive average of 90.32%, driven by standout male achievers like Mlungisi Mkhize. Not to be outdone, Gauteng and Limpopo also shine with averages above 87%, while the Free State and Western Cape uphold their legacy of high academic performance.

This year’s results prove that greatness is not confined to a single region, as all provinces have contributed to the national success story.

A year of distinctions: A triumph of commitment
The Class of 2024 earned an impressive 319 distinctions, a testament to their hard work and determination. With an average of 6.1 distinctions per learner, the cohort has exceeded expectations. Among them, 52 outstanding achievers have earned this prestigious recognition. Male learners secured 142 distinctions, while female learners led with 177 distinctions. The highest number of distinctions earned by a single learner was seven, a remarkable achievement reflecting both academic excellence and unwavering commitment.

Programme performance over the years
Reflecting on broader trends, the Class of 2024 continues a legacy of growth and achievement, spanning several years. Since 2017, the programme has seen a steady rise in the number of distinctions awarded, totalling 2202 distinctions across 387 learners. The average number of distinctions per learner has steadily risen, culminating in an impressive 87.13% average for the Class of 2024. These results are more than just numbers—they reflect the dedication of each learner, supported by committed educators, families, and communities.
