What is the Siyandisa Achievers Programme?

Not a Scholarship

The Siyandisa Achievers Programme is not a scholarship. The Programme, although, offering bursary academic funding (depending on the availability of donor bursaries), is primarily aimed at personal and developmental support as well as providing graduate funding support for a variety of graduate needs often not covered by traditional bursary programmes.

But a Programme

Our Programme spans multiple years and bridges the gap from secondary (Grade 12) to tertiary (graduate and postgraduate studies), involving multiple development facets and financial and other support elements. Accordingly, Siyandisa Achievers is not a typical scholarship, but a continuously evolving Programme aimed at shaping the next generation of leaders, innovators and changemakers.

Who can apply?

We have detailed eligibility requirements for the Programme that must be reviewed by potential applicants. Essentially, we are looking for Grade 11 black male and female South African scholars that come from low-income households and have excelled academically in Grade 11 by achieving an average of more than 80% in their Grade 11 year.

When can I apply?

Applications for 2025 open on 18 November 2024. Please check back regularly and also monitor our social media pages for more information about applications. If you believe you are eligible and wish to apply, it is vital that you first register and create a profile on our Application Portal and then apply for Siyandisa Achievers 2025. Programme Content

Alumni Network

Our Achievers join a growing and vibrant Alumni community. Our Alumni are encouraged to maintain involvement in the Programme and continue to have access to our Alumni Portal where they can engage with the Alumni network and Programme events, resources and exclusive opportunities. Many of our Alumni take up mentorship roles within the Programme providing guidance and advice to new Achievers from those that have gone before.

Campus Connect

Achievers that commence their studies at a South African university join our Campus Connect community present at each university and are assigned Campus Captains (Achievers studying at the university). Through Campus Connect, new Achievers are welcomed and guided into settling in at university and immediately make familiar connections with other Achievers who can share experiences and provide welcome guidance to new first year Achievers.

Career Development

Our new Grade 12 Achievers receive career guidance support as a vital component to commencing the process of career selection. This support assists with career choices, appropriate study fields, university selection and bursary eligibility. Our career and development support continues throughout tertiary education of our Achievers and includes guidance with employment selection, preparation and application.

Executive Development

To allow Achievers to develop fully into the leaders they are destined to be. Our Programme introduces various elements of executive development ranging from mentorship, holiday and intern programmes that are offered through industry partners, sector introductions by guest speakers, and leadership guidance by industry experts. Our goal is to avail vital executive and management awareness to our young Achievers and so prepare them for the rigors of leadership.

Funding Support

Vital to the academic studies of tertiary Achievers is the Programme’s Funding Support. Growing in scope year-on-year, our Funding Support provides quarterly funding call outs to all our tertiary Achievers who are in need of funding support. Not intended as bursary funding, our Funding Support funds the following range of vital areas critical to the academic success of our Recipients*: Travel Allowance, Study Accessories, Books, Registration, Tuition, Accommodation, Living allowance, Technology, Data, and Personal Care.

*Subject to change, available funds and annual revision

Personal Development

The most difficult challenges faced by our Achievers are often personal in nature. With many Achievers coming from rural areas and challenging backgrounds, the ability to manage these challenges at a tertiary level, can often mean the difference between success and failure. As part of the Programme we provide advice and support that focuses on the personal and soft skills development and maturity of learners, ranging from study techniques, stress management, time management, managing personal finances to dealing with peer pressure, personal motivation, ethics and mental health.

Programme Support

The Achievers Programme Team provides vital programme support to all Achievers making it possible for Achievers to focus on their academic studies and career development. With access to a range of support services provided by Siyandisa and the use of state-of-the-art technology platforms, the Achievers Management Team remains in constant communication with Achievers and ensures they are fully engaged with Programme Content.

Achiever/Alumni Portal

All Achievers and Alumni have access to the Achiever/Alumni Portal which provides global access to all Siyandisa Achievers. All communication is conducted via our Portal and Achievers and Alumni have access to resources, events and the global directory of Achievers and Alumni as well as Campus Chapters and strategic partners of the Programme.

Achiever Kit

Our Grade 12 learners receive an Achiever Kit consisting of a tablet, monthly data allowance, carry bag and other goodies such as branded clothing and stationery accessories. Tablets come pre-loaded with communication utilities for our Achievers to ensure that the Management Team can communicate with Achievers via email, voice or online conferencing.
